Description

Raffia is obtained from the leaves of the Malagasy (Africa) raffia palm. Their tough outer transparent skin is peeled off and dried to form the long, familiar strands. Raffia is used in pine needle basketry, coiled basketry and it can also be tightly twisted and used to weave a seat in the rush pattern.

Malagasay West Coast "Extra Fancy" natural raffia is available in open type hanks weighing approximately 2-3 lbs. each. Average length is 50-60 inches. Our raffia is supple, strong and durable with broad strands of good clean color. PLEASE NOTE that when ordering the quantity will be pounds not hanks.
